This training has really enriched me in every way. Willemieke and Fanny not only have a lot of knowledge and experience, but they also know how to convey this very beautifully. They provide a safe place where you can grow in your process. There is room for interpretation, the lessons and workshops are very educational and very diverse, and all facets have been taken into account. The training has brought me closer to myself and given me many tools and handles to enrich and improve my lessons. I got to know new sides of myself again. The manuals are extensive and very educational. I am extremely grateful to Willemieke and Fanny, my fellow group members, and to myself for this process. So far this is the best yoga training I have taken.

Weekend 1

The Blueprint

This opening weekend lays the foundation of the training. We establish shared language, intentions, and core principles of Modern Vinyasa. You’ll explore alignment architecture, breath awareness, and how movement is organized intelligently. This weekend sets the structural and conceptual framework that will support everything that follows: in practice, teaching, and reflection.

YHAE_TribesYTT_014_edited.png

Weekend 2

Roots & Foundations

We focus on the relationship between feet, knees, and hips to build stability and clarity in the lower body. Balance, splits, and forward folds become tools to understand direction, load, and support. Alongside this physical grounding, we begin exploring the early roots of yoga, looking back in time to understand where these practices emerge from and how structure creates meaning, both on and off the mat.

Weekend 3

Broadening Perspective

We expand movement into the coronal plane, exploring lateral movements, hip openings in multiple directions, and adaptability in transitions. As physical options widen, so does perspective: we look at how yoga worldviews evolved through history, inviting curiosity, inquiry, and a deeper sense of yoga as a living, changing tradition.

Weekend 4

Flowing from Center

Attention moves to the spine and central organization of the body. We explore spine flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral flexion while refining how movement originates from the center. This weekend emphasizes intuition, presence, and action guided by inner connection. We move with purpose and trust, allowing action to arise from alignment (physical and spiritual) rather than effort alone.

Weekend 5

Holding Space

Here we shift our physical attention toward the upper girdle: shoulders and arms, and how we meet the world through action, voice, and presence. Arm variations in the practice open up possibilities for outer connection, confidence, and responsiveness beyond the mat. You’ll also explore voice and teaching presence, learning how to hold space for others through clear structure, attentive cueing, and an embodied way of being.

Retreat Week

Living the Practice

This retreat week offers space for everything to come together. Through shared practice, teaching, reflection, and time together, learning settles beyond concepts and into experience. You’ll teach in small groups, receive feedback, and gradually step into teaching the full group, held by a supportive environment. We also look at how yoga has evolved over time, shaping the wide range of practices we encounter today, inviting integration, confidence, and a deeper sense of embodiment.

Closing Days

Closure & Continuity

These final days offer space to close the training and look ahead. We reflect on the journey, gather key learnings, and explore how to continue practicing and teaching beyond the program. You’ll look at practical next steps and have the opportunity to teach donation-based classes for invited friends and family, gently transitioning from training into sharing the practice in the wider world.

Ana
It was an amazing course and I felt was really complete. Thanks to this training I feel I earned more confidence to share what I learned. Leaving aside perfection and trusting myself more.
Olena
It is more than a training. It is a journey that builds a strong foundation in yoga and a sense of community. The mix of science-based anatomy, ancient philosophy, and teaching skills makes it a rich and meaningful experience, giving you the tools to build your own practice intelligently and share yoga with others as a teacher.
Chelsea
I appreciate all of the time, attention, energy, and compassion you poured into our yoga teacher training. You came before us each week with full presence. It was a life-enhancing experience for me on multiple levels, and I am excited to discover where it will take me.
Jeanine
You guys are truly wonderful people and exceptional yoga teachers, and I am so grateful to have had a chance to do this training with you, I learned so much!!! This experience has changed my life.
Jaime
Willemieke and Fanny are truly exceptional teachers. Their knowledge base and combined strengths make this training holistic and rewarding. It was the right mix of physical practice, anatomy, physiology and philosophy, never too much of any one thing, and very grounded in real life. The training was immediately applicable: it deepened my personal practice and helped me show up stronger in all of the situations where we need grounding and strength.
The thing that really sets the Tribes training apart is that it isn't too much of one thing. It isn't overly 'religious', everyone wasn't already a 'yogi' doing it perfectly. There was so much room for humor, lightheartedness, friendship AND athleticism. Tribes is really a different kind of studio, it's not about how people look or how well they do yoga. It's about welcoming everyone, at every stage of their journey, to support one another, to encourage rather than compete, and to go within to make it personal. It's truly something special.
Olivia
My experience with Tribes was incredible. We were provided with plenty of opportunity to practice our teaching and grow together within the group from the beginning of our training through to the end. The teachers provided us with support and guidance and I learnt so much during the training that I came away a completely different person and gained the confidence to go on and teach once I had graduated. I would definitely recommend the training to others as it was an amazing experience.

Thank you both so much for your comments on my progress and also all of your support and guidance along the way and for creating such a wonderful experience, I am so grateful for everything I have learnt from the training!
Vanessa
Truely transformative this YTT200! The amount of knowledge, effort and passion you shared during this training was definitely beyond all expectations! You both mastered the art of holding space whilst also challenging me. Forever grateful! ❤️
Wies
Wow, this training has been a truly enriching experience! Not only did I take my first steps towards becoming a yoga teacher, but I also feel richer as a person. The training is comprehensive and includes many aspects of (teaching) yoga but also offers lots of self-exploring. Willemieke and Fanny made their rich knowledge accessible to us through various teaching methods and with a lot of passion! Sometimes through explaining, but also by a lot of hands on practice, applying and trying out on each other right away. The provided manuals are to the point and contain practical tools and overviews. Willemieke and Fanny fostered a safe learning environment in which I felt free to voice my thoughts and share felt experiences with my fellow trainees. This resulted in a deep connection between us which is something I will cherish and am very grateful for.
Michela
Thank you for sharing your deep knowledge and experience with such passion and care, what a transformative journey this has been! Not only did I gain the foundational understanding of anatomy, alignment, and sequencing that I was looking for, but I also discovered a newfound passion for yoga philosophy, thanks to the insightful overview and thought-provoking guidance from Fanny. Most importantly, this training cultivated a space that was both nurturing and challenging, inspiring us to dive deeper within ourselves and truly connect, with our practice, with each other, and with the true essence of yoga. For that, I’m deeply grateful 🙏
Noeleen
It has been incredible to receive your kindness and wisdom, generosity and love. The course work you developed was astonishing in detail and knowledge. You held space for us while challenging us and enjoying our growth. Thank you will never be enough. 🙌🔥❤️
Krisna
Looking back at the lovely weekends and feeling grateful 🙏💛 Eternal gratitude to Willemieke Verweij and Fanny Alavoine for creating a beautiful training program to develop ourselves in all senses of understanding.

Your Questions

What’s the final assessment about?

The final assessment includes a short open-book essay (done at home) and a group teaching exam. You'll teach a sequence with 2–4 fellow trainees and each teach a short part to your peers. You’ll have plenty of time to prepare: it’s all about learning, not perfection.

Is homework given during the training?

You’ll receive a short list of things to review between weekends, usually a mix of reading, revisiting key material, and practicing teaching.

That said, how much time you dedicate is completely up to you. We trust you to listen to your own rhythm and choose where to focus your energy, based on your interests and life responsibilities.

Do I have to buy books?

You will need to purchase two books: one on anatomy priced at approximately 18 euros, and one on philosophy. You will choose this philosophy book from a selection of three options, each priced between 10 to 20 euros. The choices for the philosophy book will be presented to you later in the training, after we introduce the foundational concepts of yoga philosophy.

Is a Vinyasa practice required to register?

We simply expect you to be familiar with any flow-style classes.

How good does my English need to be?

Our trainee & trainer(s) community is international and multilingual: you’ll hear many accents and cultural backgrounds in the room. You do need a good understanding of English and the ability to communicate in it, but your English doesn’t have to be perfect. You’re always welcome to ask for clarification or repetition during the training.
