Pilates Advanced Sequencing

From exercise to integrated flow.

Leiden · Fri 4 & 11 Dec 2026 · limited places · €295

For Pilates, barre and movement teachers who already teach

NOT READY TO COMMIT?

Stop teaching Pilates as a list of separate exercises. In two afternoons you learn a method to build sequences where each exercise prepares the next, so your classes flow and keep giving you new material. No ready-made choreography: a way of thinking you can use in every class.

YOU'LL LEAVE WITH

A practical method for turning individual exercises into connected sequences

Ways to use props to change support, feedback and challenge

Ideas for layering strength, mobility, balance and coordination

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

Hear it from them

01

A five-step way to build a sequence

Each movement prepares the body for the next. You work with five steps: connect (awareness and organisation), build (control and activation), load (more demand, same quality), integrate (whole-body movement) and express (dynamic, creative movement).

02

Movement chains & myofascial connections

Inspired by Anatomy Trains, Pilates principles and functional biomechanics, you look at how movement and load travel through the body: the posterior, anterior, lateral and spiral chains, and deep central support. A creative lens for class design, not a set of rigid rules.

03

Progressing without just making it harder

Advanced doesn't simply mean harder. Changing one variable can transform an exercise: from two legs to one, from a wide base to a small one, from supported to free, from short lever to long, from one plane to several, from floor to standing. You learn when a progression makes sense, and when complexity is just complexity.

HANDS-ON TRAINING

A DAY AT THE TRAINING

Practice: a chain flow, moved together
Breakdown: how the sequence is built and why
Short break
Lab: build and teach your own chain in small groups
Feedback and reflection

WHY THIS TRAINING MATTERS

You know plenty of exercises, but sometimes wonder what should come next. You'd like classes that feel creative without becoming random, and that flow instead of stopping to set up after every exercise.
This training gives you a framework that keeps generating new material of your own.

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO

Build Pilates sequences in which movements progressively develop from one another

Use movement chains as inspiration for class design

Adjust load, lever length, stability and base of support

Develop original sequences rather than relying on pre-designed choreography

Ready to build classes that flow?

Places are limited: it's a small, hands-on group.

Who you'll learn from

Willemieke Verweij leads this training. Co-trainer of the Pilates Mat Foundation and founder of Tribes Studios, she brings dance, somatics and functional biomechanics together into a clear method you can take straight into your classes.

Willemieke Verweij

Embodied Anatomy | Breath & Presence | Authentic Teaching

Brings a unique blend of dance, somatics and yoga to her teaching. She invites you to experience movement not as performance but as a felt, living process, bridging scientific understanding with embodied exploration.

Your classes are always refreshing and creative. I often find myself wondering: how do you come up with this?

Jennifer

I came in thinking I would 'just' learn some exercises, but I left with a deep understanding of how to truly guide others.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Good to know

What is the online flow library?

Five chain flows of about 20 minutes each, built with the method you learn in the training. They're yours to practise and return to after the training, so you keep finding new material for your own classes.

Do I need to have done the Pilates Mat Foundation?

No. This training is for teachers who already teach: you've completed a Pilates, barre or comparable teacher training. Graduates of our Pilates Mat Foundation are very welcome: it's the natural next step.

What if I miss a training day?

Let us know as early as possible. Whether and how you can make up what you missed is decided case by case, depending on the training and on what you missed. To receive your certificate, you need to have completed all the hours.

How good does my English need to be?

Our trainee & trainer(s) community is international and multilingual: you’ll hear many accents and cultural backgrounds in the room. You do need a good understanding of English and the ability to communicate in it, but your English doesn’t have to be perfect. You’re always welcome to ask for clarification or repetition during the training.
